THE FIRST PHASE: FROM CLAY TO TERRA COTTA (or “BISCOTTO”)

We utilize different types of clay or several mixtures according to the kind of working required to make the piece (handwork, using the wheel, moulds or mould slips).
We usually use the so-called “clay for majolica” which comes from
the Tiber river.
After its depuration, filtration and mixing the clay is ready
for its first transformation (the so-called “foggiatura” or shaping
).
